About Us

Established in 2016 in Delhi by ecologist and artist Dr. Pinki Purkayastha, Pragya Kala Kendra is a cultural and arts institute affiliated with Surnandan Bharati, Kolkata. The institute offers training across diverse performing and visual arts, including classical dance forms like Kathak and Rabindra Nritya, folk dances, contemporary styles, fine arts, and creative writing. Grounded in a unique synthesis of ecology, anthropology, and traditional expression, Pragya Kala Kendra emphasizes the deep connection between natural environments and cultural heritage. Through structured degree, diploma and certificate programs, it nurtures artistic discipline while serving as an active center for cultural research and community engagement.

Folk dance classes

Folk dance is a living tradition that comes from local communities. It uses simple steps to show regional culture, harvest times, and community joy.

Rabindra Nritya classes

Rabindra Nritya, or Tagore Dance, is an expressive and fluid dance style created by Nobel laureate Rabindranath Tagore at Visva-Bharati University in Santiniketan. It blends Indian classical and folk traditions with graceful, emotional movements designed to visually interpret Rabindra Sangeet poetry and timeless human themes.

Bollywood classes

Bollywood dance is a vibrant and energetic style seen in Indian films that blends traditional classical and folk movements with popular Western genres. It is characterized by expressive storytelling, dramatic facial expressions, and dynamic full-body choreography.

Odissi classes

Odissi is an ancient classical dance form that originated in the Hindu temples of the eastern Indian state of Odisha. It is known for its lyrical grace, expressive storytelling, and signature three-bend tribhanga posture.

Kathak classes

Kathak is a major classical dance form from northern India that originated from ancient storytellers called kathakars. It is famous for its expressive facial gestures, rapid spins, and intricate footwork worn with musical ankle bells.
